The Inclusion Showcase
Pupil Attitude to Self and School
Presenter
Nick Caws
Why did you decide to undertake this piece of work?
- PASS is a valuable tool in promoting pupil
participation and personalisation
- PASS can provide statistical evidence to support future action
planning and School SEF
What were the objectives and intended outcomes?
Pupil participation and
the voice of the child: PASS is an on-line survey that can provide pupil feedback on how pupils
see themselves as learners at the individual, group and whole school level.
What actions did you
take over what time frame?
- Visited other Las in the region who have used PASS 2 years ago
- Discussed the validity and theoretical
basis with the authors
- Explored development opportunities with LAs who have been using PASS for
some time
- Established a pilot group through BEST 18 months ago
- Facilitated a launch event last
summer
- Provided PASS to 20 settings this month
What were the resource implications?
With the average 3 year licence costing £2.5k we have provided approximately £80k of resources
to over 30 settings in partnership with the PCT.
What has been the impact? How have you measured outcomes?
Schools are just starting to use the data to inform there personalisation and intervention planning.
What do you plan to do next? How will you ensure sustainability?
We intend to continue to roll PASS out to all schools and look to embedding the provision through
a participation strategy.
What were your biggest challenges and how did you overcome them?
Funding is always a challenge but PASS meets several needs including emotional health and well
being and is seen as a useful measure of impact for all kinds of work such as the effectiveness
of LSU work.
If you were to do it again what would you do differently?
Arrange a situation where a cluster of schools championed the implementation.
